is 5-axis Machining?

5-axis CNC machining is a form of precision milling that is made up of five free axes, and thus the machine is able to have a part cut at several angles at the same time. The method allows making very complicated geometries, complex contours, and fine details that may be hard or impossible to achieve by conventional processes. Best suited to industries where the highest accuracy is required, 5-axis machining is capable of machining a full variety of materials such as metals, plastics and composites.

5-axis VS. 3-axis Machining

The big distinction between 5-axis machining and 3-axis machining is the added rotational movement 3-axis machining is limited to work on three fixed planes, and 5-axis machining offers greater flexibility in more complex shapes and tight tolerance. The 5-axis allows complex geometries, undercuts, and complicated finishes on the surface to be realized without having a number of setups.
